THREE months after the Olympic Games finished, a Hereford school is ensuring its legacy continues.

More than 70 students at the Hereford Academy in South Wye have signed up to take part in sessions provided by a host of city sports clubs including the Hereford Badminton Academy and Tennis Hereford.

Youngsters also heard Academy principal John Sheppard’s Olympic highlights during a week of ‘Olympic assemblies’.

The school’s physical education teacher Nick Ashton said the sessions are aimed at following up the Olympics’ ‘Inspire a Generation’ theme, adding he hoped it would create “passion and energy for sports in all our students”.

Sheppard said: “The success of both the Olympics and Paralympics has made everyone proud to be British.

“The Academy is committed to keeping the Olympic promise and will encourage and support students in reaching their goals.”
