Paying passengers should have priority

I HAVE had experiences similar to those of David Delaney (Readers Times August 14) travelling through Newport on average about once a week, usually to Reading for Heathrow or Gatwick or to London and occasionally to Bristol Temple Meads for Bristol Airport.

I FIND the situation facing my father, who is 92 years old next month, is a disgrace. He has served his country, paid his taxes all his working life and is a very proud man. But he has lost his dignity and has been let down by the state, just because he had the sense to save whatever money he could, for a rainy day, going without the luxries people have today.

TWO birthday cards were posted in Telford on Wednesday, one for Hereford 66 miles away, the other for Melbourne, 10,000 miles away. There was a first-class stamp on the one for Hereford. Melbourne cost £1.67.
