A good and bad week for Hereford

HEREFORD got a major coup last week when Prime Minister David Cameron paid a visit and gave the city a glowing recommendation.

The PM visited the planned Enterprise Zone (EZ) in Rotherwas and said that it is key to the future of the business world.

More than 50 new defence, security and high-tech manufacturing companies are lined up to move to the site, creating 2,000 jobs, which I think is fantastic.

All too often, I hear people moaning about Hereford, saying that there are no prospects here, so the EZ should be a good way in not only keeping people in the city, but also attracting other people and businesses.

There is no guarantee that it will definitely happen though or that the businesses being lined up to come to Hereford will employ local workers, but the fact that the city is actually being praised by Mr Cameron should be met with pride.

On the downside though, things seem to be going from bad to worse for Hereford United.

As a season ticket holder and lifelong Bulls fan, I think I have a fair understanding of the sheer frustration that is kicking in amongst Bulls fans.

I know everyone connected with the club is trying their hardest to make things work, but it clearly isn't working and something needs to be done soon rather than later, otherwise Blue Square Premier football will be knocking on the door.

In my opinion, I don't think the style of play suits the players and team selections of late have been baffling to say the least.

Schoolboy errors are also creeping in - both goals on Tuesday versus Bristol Rovers could have been prevented, which doesn't help anyone.

Saturday, the Bulls travel to fellow strugglers Dagenham, & Redbridge.

Lose and Hereford will most likely be in the relegation zone, and with a run of tough games coming up after that, is the last place they want to be.

Win and the team can then go into those games in a much more confident mood and then may be the football club will start to be celebrated just like the Enterprise Zone.
