CLYRO parishioners are celebrating the restoration of a church painting after vandals pierced it with a crucifix on Easter Sunday.

The Madonna and Child picture was one of several items attacked at St Michael’s and All Angels’ in Clyro - famed for its connection with diarist the Rev Francis Kilvert - in March.

Aside from the painting, fire extinguishers were let off and excrement was used to write a crude message in a library book.

In response a special cleansing and rededication service was later held after residents pulled together to clean up.

Two juveniles were arrested after the incident and appeared at Brecon Youth Court in June.
