Planners to examine Porthouse Farm development

AN ambitious plan to build a housing estate in Bromyard will be considered by planners next week.

The outline proposal to build 127 homes on Porthouse Farm will go in front of Herefordshire Council's planning committee on Wednesday February 1.

Planning officers have recommended the plan, from Worcester-based Marsten Developments, for approval subject to conditions.

A previous proposal from the company to build 175 homes on the same site was refused in 2010.

Marsten later withdrew an appeal to the decision.

The proposed housing development adjacent to Porthouse Industrial Estate is just ridiculous. It would put a large residential area on land adjoining Bromyard's largest employer and all of the associated compatibility problems that would bring.
If Herefordshire Council really want 300+ people to lose their jobs, which ultimately would happen as the company got tired of curtailing business activity to appease their new neighbours, then go ahead with the development.
It's hard enough for Bromyard to compete with industrial areas in Worcester or Hereford let alone further afield. Making it harder to operate on an existing site that already has it's own logistical challenges will simply incentivise the company to relocate. As part of a multinational group, that needn't necessarily mean that those jobs remain in the UK either.
Yes, we need housing and yes, we need to re-use as much brownfield land as possible, but this is not the location to do it.
I hope the Council come to their senses and realise that their actions have far reaching implications.

there are other sites in Bromyard already identified for housing provision; Winslow Road has access points built into it just for that eventuality.Porterho
use is an industrial site and should be kept for job creation,Bromyard needs new job opportunities and certainly can't afford to drive away the companies already there. This housing application is madness.
