WATER problems in Ledbury caused by new development and ageing drains should be eliminated after the Top Cross work.
Welsh Water has spent £10 million improving 65 kilometres of piping in the Ledbury area.
This year’s work on the High Street and Homend was the biggest part of the scheme but caused major disruption.
Project worker Mike Lynch said traders’ concerns had been heeded.
“When we sat down and discussed the (previous) work with people in the town it was clear they were pretty upset,” he said.
“So what we’ve done is talk to them, the fire service, police and town council to see how we could change things.”
Proposals include a one-way system in Bank Crescent to keep traffic flowing from Homend to Knapp Lane. Parking will be restricted to allow access for emergency vehicles, while three-way traffic lights will be installed at the A449 and A348 junction near Eastnor.
Mr Lynch said the work should improve varying water pressures around the town, caused, in part, by increased water usage at the Universal Beverages cider mill at Little Marcle Road.
Some evening and weekend work would take place and the project would take at least four weeks.
“We had a lot of complaints last time around that we weren’t moving fast enough,” he said. “There will be some work at night but safety is my main priority. It’s going to be very complicated because everything that passes through the town goes through Top Cross,” said Mr Lynch.
