CAN I assure author Phil Rickman that Stretford Church is not derelict, as quoted in the Hereford Times (County in ITV drama, November 20). It is in fact kept in excellent condition by a team of volunteers from the Churches Conservation Trust who took over the church when it was made redundant.
One special service is held annually to commemorate St Cosmas and St Damian, the patron saints of physicians, surgeons and apothecaries as well as chemists, pharmacists and veterinary surgeons.
This September the church was full to capacity for the service of thanksgiving for harvest and patronal festival for St Cosmas and St Damian.
The church is Grade I Listed and has a unique double nave and chancel. Well worth a visit.
