Herefordshire receptionist's cycle challenge raises vital funds

RECEPTIONIST Julie Skyrme cycled 300 miles along the Great Wall of China and raised more than £10,000 for Diabetes UK.

She started her trip from a village north of Beijing and covered between 50 and 90 kilometres a day in the shadow of the Great Wall.

The 48-year-old from Kinnersley admitted that it was more demanding than she expected but it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience never to be forgotten and worth all the hard work.

She chose to support the diabetes charity because her son James, now aged 22, was diagnosed as diabetic when he was a young boy.

“If the funds raised from my challenge help to find either better diabetes treatments, or a cure, every second will be worth it,” she said.

The self-funded trip raised £10,160 for the cause.
