A HEREFORD band can lay claim to playing a small role in one of the world’s most successful sporting events.
Busker Street, a band formed by students at Hereford Sixth Form College, entertained VIPs making their way to the Olympic Stadium in east London for both the opening and closing Olympic Games ceremonies.
Among those who heard the band were London 2012 chairman Seb Coe, Sir Cliff Richard and boy band One Direction.
The five-piece group was formed while studying music at the Folly Lane college and they have since performed in the county and at jazz festivals before being selected to perform in the Olympic Park.
Band leader Ben Turner said: “It’s our biggest gig yet and may prove hard to beat. We’re just so proud to be a part of the Olympics that has taken our nation by storm.”
Sam Ellis, Tom Saunders, Dave Pledge and Rich Platt are the other four members of the band.
They were selected by Podium, a firm selected to work with colleges and universities to help give them a chance to be involved in London 2012.
