RENOWNED county artist Walenty Pytel says his next major project could be his last.

Walenty, who designed the Bulmers woodpecker on Hereford’s Whitecross Road, has been asked by Malvern Town Council to design a scupture of two buzzards to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The piece, weighing about a tonne and measuring about 80ft high might be the artist's final creation after he revealed he might soon retire. Walenty was injured in a fall from a ladder at his home near Ross -on-Wye, in 2006.

Retirement would mean that his plan's to site a 40-metre sculpture of three birds to to the M50 near Ross-on-Wye could be scuppered.
