Planning application withdrawn at Belmont Lodge and Golf Club in Hereford

events staff are rallying round after functions at Belmont Lodge and Golf Club were jeopardised by the withdrawal of a vital planning application.

Bosses are “extremely frustrated”

that weddings and parties scheduled for this year and the next cannot go ahead as planned because Herefordshire Council does not think a marquee should be erected outside any longer.

They say planning officers would not support plans for the temporary structure – the main function room – to stay for the next three years following “considerable”

local objection.

A statement said: “This was extremely disappointing as it came despite undertakings we had given during consultations with local residents and the planning department to introduce new measures to limit and control sound levels during events.”

Their priority now is finding alternatives for clients currently booked in from May onwards.

“The impact it will have on us and many other local businesses who support us in putting on events will be very significant,”

the statement concluded, “especially in these very difficult times”.

It is a further blow for directors who put the site on the market for more than £2 million last summer, months after permission to extend its live music licence was denied by councillors despite claims refusal would put the business at risk.

Staff would not comment on the sale but according to property consultant Humberts Leisure, Belmont Lodge and Golf Club is currently under offer.
