POST Office chiefs have confirmed the closure of a threatened branch in Ross-on-Wye.

Post Office Ltd (POL) are dropping the axe on the Tudorville branch.

The branch was one of 19 earmarked for closure or an outreach programme in a bid to stem £4million losses.

But despite being the only branch subject to further review, a statement confirmed its closure this morning (Thursday).

Bosses have not confirmed a closure date, but have announced plans to open a new outlet nearby on a trial basis.

Mark Partington, POL’s network development manager, said the outlet could become permanent, depending on its success.

“We appreciate that any decision to close a post office branch will be unpopular,” he said.

“Nevertheless, POL has to make changes in order to put the network on a more stable footing for the future.”
