Leominster groups urged to take advantage of scheme

8:46am Friday 25th April 2008

COMMUNITY groups in Leominster are being urged to apply to Herefordshire Council for a share of £5,000.

The community pride scheme, part of the Market Towns Initiative Programme, offers grants to community projects to buy equipment which will improve services, enhance the area or provide an attraction.

So far, 43 grants have been awarded to projects including banners for the Victorian Fair, a projector for Leominster Age Concern, health and safety equipment for the Leominster Medievil Fair and radios for Leominster St John Ambulance.

Eligible groups must have a written constitution and be based in the Leominster Regeneration Area. The maximum award is £750 or 75 per cent of the total project costs, whichever is the lesser.

Groups have until October of this year to apply for grants, and until January 2009 to claim any grants offered. Applications will be considered on a first-come basis.

The Market Towns Initiative Programme is run by Advantage West Midlands and the Leominster Area Regeneration Partnership.

For more information and guidance call Cathy Arthurs of Herefordshire Council’s delegated grants and programmes team on 01432 260753.
