MAJOR work is to take place on the A49 in Herefordshire next year.

National Highways say work will take place throughout the whole stretch of the road from the A5 and A5112 Dobbies roundabout at Bayston Hill in Shropshire to the A40 Wilton roundabout, near Ross-on-Wye.

It will start from next Tuesday (January 2) and finish on Monday, December 23. 

It is expected that it will be carried out overnight between 7pm and 6am (7am on Saturday and Sunday).

Meanwhile, work will also be taking place on the M50 motorway during the same period.

This will impose prohibitions between the A449 and B4221 roundabout near Brampton Abbotts; the roundabout near Junction 8 of the M5, near Upper Strensham; the A438 at its dumbbell junction with the M50 Junction 1 slip roads; and any slip roads leading to and from the AM50 at Junctions 1, 2 and 3. 

Finally, there will be work on the A449 and A40 trunk roads from Brampton Abbotts to the England/Wales border. 

This includes the the circulatory carriageway of the roundabout junction with the M50, the A449 and the B4221 Traveller's Rest roundabout at Brampton Abbotts; the A449 southbound from its junction wit the Traveller's Rest roundabout to its roundabout junction with the A40, Netherton Road and the B4236 Ledbury Road (Over Ross roundabout) at Brampton Abbotts; the circulatory roundabout of Over Ross roundabout; the A449 northbound from its junction with Over Ross roundabout to the England/Wales border, south of Ganarew; the A40 northbound from the England/Wales border, south of Ganarew to its junction with Over Ross roundabout; and any lay-by, bus stop or service road adjacent to the lengths of the carriageway.

The prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works or maintenance vehicles.
