CABINET control of Herefordshire Council failed over the schools closure plan - it has been claimed.

Councillor Marcelle Lloyd-Hayes, head of the recently formed Herefordshire Alliance, told the Hereford Times that the announcement of the now suspended schools closure programme showed a "blatant disregard" for the feelings and views of parents, pupils, teachers and governors.

"Either the cabinet is in charge of the council, had endorsed the plan and should accept responsibility, or it is not in control and has handed over responsibility to unelected officers," said Coun Lloyd-Hayes.
