Penalty king Hibbard on target in Fields’ double

9:19am Thursday 25th October 2007

Westfields 1 Boldmere St Michael's 0

LOOKING to bounce back after the previous weekend's first Midland Football Alliance defeat of the season at Barwell, Westfields converted a second half penalty to take the points in an end-to-end encounter at allpay.park, giving them the double over Boldmere.

With John Pugh, Jamie Cuss and Jamie Edwards restored to their starting line-up, the home side produced a hard-working display to match a slick Boldmere side, who were looking for revenge for a 2-0 home defeat on the opening day of the season.

Edwards went close with an early shot as Westfields opened up strongly. The same player was in action at the other end on 15 minutes, clearing the ball off his own goal-line when Josh McKenzie outjumped the home defence at a corner.

Tom Harding had a low drive brilliantly saved by Ryan Price with Westfields' best chance of the first half. Pugh was in action soon after the resumption, tipping the ball round a post.

Shaun Prince shot agonisingly wide for the home side, before Mark Hibbard scored the all-important goal from the penalty spot on 69 minutes. He smashed the ball in after Paul Allam was upended as he dashed into the box.

Both sides used fresh legs in the latter stages, but it was Alex Hunt who caught the eye at the heart of the home defence as Westfields held on in style.
