AN innovative development where residents share parts of their home life in communal areas will be built in Kingstone.

Out of the 150 home development at the Bridge Croft site, 21 properties will be bought by Mandorla Cohousing.

The group is made up of people who wish to combine privacy with sharing parts of their lives with others.

They will live within self-contained houses, ranging from one-bedroom flats to four-bedroom houses, and there will also be a ‘common house’ in which meals, recreation, entertainment and other facilities – such as a laundry, library and a store room – will be shared.

The whole development will be made to ‘Passivhaus’ standard, which uses very little energy for heating and cooling.

It will be built in three or four phases with the 21 homes included in the first phase. Building is yet to start.

Mandorla is now recruiting new members - especially families and young couples - to join them in this project.
