A DRUNKEN man damaged a custody cell at Hereford’s police station, a court has heard.

Mark Parry entered guilty pleas to one count of criminal damage to property valued under £5,000, one count of being drunk and disorderly in a public place and one count of assaulting an emergency worker by beating when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford this month.

The court heard from prosecutor Paul John that the 39-year-old defendant had been drunk and disorderly in Blue School Street in Hereford on August 10 last year. He also assaulted a police officer acting in the exercise of his functions as such a worker.

He had also, intentionally or recklessly and without lawful excuse, caused £350 worth of damage to a custody cell belonging to West Mercia Police at Hereford’s police station between August 9 and August 11.

Parry, who is of Pixley Walk in Hereford, was fined £50 and handed a 12-month community order to attend up to 25 days of probation appointments of rehabilitation activities. He must also pay £350 in compensation to the police.

Magistrates said they took his guilty pleas into account when imposing the penalty.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £200 and a £48 victim surcharge.
