FOWNHOPE History Group has brought together more than 70 original paintings and pictures produced by local artist Mary Soulsby for a one-day exhibition in Fownhope’s Memorial Hall on Saturday, a unique opportunity to celebrate the work of a muchloved local artist. It has been sponsored by The Flag, and organised by Michael Best.

Mary and her husband John, a county deputy architect, local historian and photographer, provided unstinting and distinguished service for almost a half century.

Mary taught in the school, sang in the church choir, led the Girl Guides and Brownies, and was a member of the celebrated village orchestra and a leading light in the WI.

The exhibition will feature a wide range of Mary’s work loaned for the day from owners all round the country, as well as John’s local photographs.

Mary and John’s legacy includes the inspiration they gave others, so there will also be a display of contemporary local artists. Entry to the exhibition, open from 10am to 5pm, is free.
