h.Art week, which this year runs from September 6 to 14, was launched in 2002 with the aim of promoting the large number and wide variety of professional and semi-professional artists and craftmakers working in the region. All of this year's venues are, as always, free to visitors and the majority are open for the full nine days of the event, from 11am to 5pm, though some may open earlier and/or close later.

THE summer exhibition at the Hay Makers gallery in St John's Place, Hay-on-Wye, features decorative porcelain and stoneware by George Omerod, who uses rich glazes and vibrant patters, jewellery by Xuella Arnold, who works in precious metal and bronze clays, and Laura Baxter, whose work is influenced by plants and wildlife, and collographs by printmaker Hester Cox. Hester takes inspiration from natural landscapes, myths and the symbolism associated with them.

NEXT week sees the opening of one of the most eagerly awaited arts events of the year as final year students at Hereford College of Arts showcase their work at the annual Summer Show exhibition, which last year welcomed more than 5,000 visitors in five days.

APPLE Store Gallery has moved to Rockfield Road to fulfil a long-held ambition of combining a fine art gallery and framing workshop with artists' studios, and their opening exhibition, Forest Friends, features work by Doug Eaton, Dani Eveleigh, Ian Gorton, Sally Grant, Rowan Hannay, Bela Kielt, Molly Meager, Leah Robinson and Sally Stafford. The gallery also welcomes Allan Laycock, RWA, whose work can be found in private and public collections in the UK and overseas, as a guest exhibitor.

THE Apple Store Gallery's New Year starts with 'Fourth Quarter', an exhibition featuring artists who are new to the Gallery.
