A LAST-gasp penalty from Craig Jones earned Westfields a place in the second round of the FA Carlsberg Vase.

Fields will now face old rivals Coventry Sphinx at allpay.park in the second round on November 16.

With 160 visiting fans in the attendance of 204, Bromsgrove soon had plenty to cheer about.

Westfields keeper Matt Gwynne brought down Will Tibbetts in the area and Sam Wilkinson scored from the spot.

But, on the quarter-hour, Westfields were back on terms when Jamie Insall scored his third goal in three games, also with a penalty after a handling offence.

A couple of solid challanges from Scott Jackson kept Fields level at the interval before Jamie Cuss put them ahead early in the second period from a goalmouth scramble.

Wilkinson converted his second penalty of the afternoon after a shirt-pulling offence and the game looked set for extra-time.

But, in the 89th minute, Brad Birch was challenged in the area as he received an Alex O’Leary cross and the referee awarded his fourth penalty of the afternoon.

Jones stepped up to score and earn a further home tie.

l HOLDERS Westfields will host former finalists Ewyas Harold in the quarter-finals of the HFA County Challenge Cup.

Hinton will face Fownhope, while last season’s runners-up Ledbury Town host Bromyard Town and Pegasus Juniors will entertain Lads Club.

Pegasus Juniors fought back from 2-1 down with 15 minutes remaining to win 3-2 against visiting Bartestree in an exciting first-round tie last Wednesday.

Cory Hyde was Pegasus’ hero, scoring twice in a minute after fine crosses from Ben Price to see off a spirited Bartestree.

Pegasus broke the deadlock in the first-half with a deflected shot from Anthony Robbins. But Bartestree levelled through Marc Avery’s 25-yard thunderbolt.

Kiea Cowley rattled a post and Mark Langford’s free-kick put the villagers ahead before Hyde’s quick-fire double sealed Pegasus’ quarter-final berth.
