Loughborough University 4 Westfields 2.
WESTFIELDS were given a lesson by the high-flying students who have moved up to third place in the Midland Alliance table.
The Leicestershire side made a great start with two goals in the first 15 minutes in their new £3m stadium.
Albert Owusu-Ansah scored with a dipping shot after only six minutes and this was followed by Jordan Barker’s clinical finish after Westfields had failed to stop a run by Ebby Nelson-Addy.
Just before the break, a defensive mix-up allowed Sam Cook to put the students firmly in command when he shot home from eight yards.
Fields boss Sean Edwards made three substitutions at the interval and his re-shuffled side pulled a goal back when Jamie Cuss scored after the Loughborough keeper fumbled a Richard Kear shot.
The home side re-established their three-goal advantage when Nelson-Addy crossed for Owusu-Ansah to sweep the ball past Matt Gwynne. But Westfields maintained their pride when Craig Jones scored a second near the end and Kear and Jones were both denied further goals by good defending.
On another weather-affected day on the Herefordshire football scene, Bartestree have gone top of the West Midlands (Regional) League Division Two. The villagers move ahead of county rivals Ledbury Town after a 3-2 home success against Wrens Nest.
In the Premier Division, Wellington bounced back from a heavy reverse at Shawbury United the previous week with a 2-2 draw with Malvern Town. Saul Thomas (pen) and Dale Withers, with a diving header from a Steve Brotherwood cross, were on target.
