WESTFIELDS paid the price for three glaring misses in a 3-0 home defeat to Market Drayton Town in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup.

Town wrapped up their triumph when Tom Rogers raced into the Westfields half and fired in the clinching goal with a 30-yard rocket.

Westfields’ Daryl Addis and Jamie Cuss had two chances saved in the opening half before the tie came to life after the interval.

Grant Goodhead nodded Town ahead five minutes into the second half but Addis should have levelled when he side-footed wide.

Town goalkeeper Andrew Pryce then raced off his line to smother at the feet of Addis after Bobby Aldrich and Sam Harrison had combined.

Pryce saved brilliantly from Cuss and then Harrison blazed over from close range after a cross from substitute Carl Morgan.

Phil Glover headed over the bar before Rogers sealed Town’s cup victory with a superb 84thminute strike.

Westfields had to settle for a point from a competitive 0-0 draw at Studley in the Midland Alliance on Bank Holiday Monday.

Cuss, Glover and Craig Jones almost scored for Westfields while winger Darren Andrews had an early penalty appeal turned down.

Studley also created goal-scoring opportunities but Westfields goalkeeper Jamie Moore was in top form.

Leominster Town maintained their excellent start to the season with a hard-fought 3-1 win at Penn Colts in Division 2 of the West Midlands League.
