FORMER player, SAS hero and author Rusty Firmin was the principal guest when Westfields’ players, committee and guests enjoyed a successful end to the season with their annual dinner and awards evening at Burghill Valley Golf Club.

Andy Morris, Westfields’ chief executive, looked back on a season where the club had reached their target of a top six place in the MFA and reached two cup finals.

“We reached our highest ever placing finishing fifth in the very competitive MFA League and reached two senior Cup finals, sadly losing them both which was disappointing,"

he said.

"But to reach them and play on two Football League grounds was an achievement and the players and Sean Edwards, Joey Rawle and the management team need to be congratulated on a fine season.”

Team manager Edwards said: “We need to be ready for next season.

"We need to build on this year’s success and try and achieve a promotion place and perhaps a better run in the FA Vase and FA Cup.

"We have a great ground, sponsors, committee and a group of players who can take us forward to another level.”

Chairman John Morgan said: “We have a sound junior and youth set-up and our Under 16s have won their League and Cup this season which bodes well for the future.

"Our Hereford Times Herefordshire League Premier Division side have consolidated while we have an U18 side in the HFA Youth League who have shown that next year will be a chance for them to shine.

"Our committee have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to meet the demands of managers, players and the leagues in which we play.

"The committee are to be congratulated on a year of total support.”

Morris summed up: “We are so fortunate to have a fantastic club sponsor in allpay and Tony Killeen has given us great financial support these last four years.

"They have again confirmed their sponsorship for the next 12 months which is a huge boost to the club.

"The Hereford Times, too, have been very supportive with coverage and have sponsored our awards evening which is a tribute to them as their support over the past 44 years has been superb.”
