WESTFIELDS were humbled on Tuesday night by a Lye Town side who have made a stunning start to the Midland Football League Premier Division campaign.

The Black Country side won 5-0 at Brocton on Saturday and then trounced Westfields 4-1.

Lye opened the scoring after 23 minutes through Tom Oldfield before Simon Williams doubled the advantage seven minutes later.

The game was effectively over when the away side made it 3-0 after 40 minutes through Dan Flowers, but Westfields pulled a goal back shortly afterwards from a Craig Jones penalty. Westfields enjoyed a better spell after the break, with Aidan Thomas, Jamie Cuss and Kane Kahaki all going close for the Hereford side.

But it was Lye who broke away to seal the game after 72 minutes through substitute Sam Beasley.

One positive note for Westfields though was the healthy attendance of 203.

Tickets for their derby match against Hereford on August Bank Holiday were on sale during the night and will continue during this Saturday's FA Cup game against Pegasus Juniors.

Westfields have confirmed that the capacity for the all-ticket game has been set at 1,825.

Westfields opened their league account with a fine 2-0 away win at Loughborough University on Saturday.

Sean Edwards' side opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when Jones put Marcus Palmer through, who neatly lobbed Loughborough goalkeeper Donativo.

The Italian keeper then made a full-length save to deny Thomas before Westfields stopper Andy Delve saved well from Welsh striker Alun Webb.

Loughborough looked more threatening after the break and Westfields had to defend well.

The away side should have increased their lead when Thomas went on a tremendous run, only to see his shot hit a post.

Loughborough were then a warded a free-kick from seven yards out after Delve was penalised for picking the ball up twice, but Westfields managed to scramble the ball away.

Westfields made the points safe when man-of-the-match Matt Reeve combined set up Jones to fire an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.
