SAM Gwynne said he will consider joining Hereford FC if the opportunity arose.

Gwynne made 74 appearances for Hereford United in two spells at the club and currently stars for Westfields.

The 27-year-old joined the Royal Marines last summer, but made a return for Westfields on Tuesday night due to being on leave.

"I keep all doors open," said Gwynne.

"I'm obviously got my work to do first, but if I play football around that after passing out and going to university, then I would definitely consider it.

"I think it's great that they've got a club coming back together, Hereford needs it and football needs to be played at Edgar Street.

"I wish Hereford FC all the best for the future."

Gwynne said he is enjoying his time in the Army.

"It's alright in the Army, you have some good days and some bad days, you just keep going really," he said.

"I've passed out of Phase One now and are a qualified soldier, I've just got to do my Phase Two.

"I'm on leave for two weeks so thought I would get a couple of games in and try and help get the boys into the final, but it hasn't quite worked out."

Westfields bowed out of the Polymac Packaging Midlands Premier Division Cup after losing on away goals to Long Eaton United.

Long Eaton won the second leg tie at allpay.park 2-1 to level the aggregate score at 2-2.

Westfields were unhappy with the winning goal by Ross Parker at the start of the second half.

The referee deemed that Westfields goalkeeper Harvey Rivers picked up a back-pass and awarded an indirect free-kick.

Parker duly drove the ball home after being teed-up on the edge of the box and Westfields failed to grab a second goal that would have sent them through the final at Walsall's Bescot Stadium.

"I don't think it was a pass-back to be honest, I don't think many people did," said Gwynne.

Westfields dominated the first half and opened the scoring in the ninth minute thanks to a near-post finish from Luke Griffiths.

Luke Corbett had chances to increase the lead, with a free-kick just going wide and the striking failing to get on the end of a cross.

Tom Boyle then shot over before Long Eaton levelled on the stroke of half-time after Chris Jones eventually headed home from a corner.

Parker then put Long Eaton ahead in the 48th minute, and in blustery conditions, Westfields could not get the decisive goal they needed.
