HEREFORD head coach Sean Lynn was left disappointed after his side went down 29-15 to Dudley Kingswinford in Midlands 1 West.

Despite taking an early lead, Hereford lost concentration and conceded three tries which ultimately cost them the game.

Lynn said the loss is a learning curve for his young squad.

"We have to react and make sure that when we travel away from home we are switched on right from the kick off," he said.

"We can’t take 35 minutes to get into the game.

"In the second half we showed positivity, reacted very well and played well with the wind at our backs.

"It’s a shame that we took nothing from the game and that’s something that these boys have to learn from.

"Now it’s how we react again and make sure we get a win this week at home to Worcester.”

Dudley put Hereford under pressure from the start and it was against the run of play when the home side opened the scoring.

Sean Day drew the defence before setting up Brad Down for his first try for Hereford.

Luke Fisher then picked up a yellow card for three infringements and it wasn't long before Dudley took the lead when their forwards drove over from a maul.

The subsequent conversion was successful.

Dudley increased their lead thanks to a try in the corner before another try was added before half time.

Hereford played much better in the second half and reduced the deficit when captain Tom Ewins drove over from a maul; James Stubbs adding the extras.

Stubbs then kicked over a penalty soon afterwards to take Hereford within four points, but that was as close as the home side got and Dudley claimed a try bonus win.

"The Hereford pack were out-gunned by the heavier forwards who supplied an ample supply of good ball to their backs, but it was the lack of first half concentration, care and energy which cost us a game which they could have won," added Hereford press officer Rob Davies.

"Leon Parsons had a good game, particularly when he moved from wing to centre and Sean Day put fear into the DK defence whenever he got the ball with space to run.

"Connah Harding added energy from the bench in the second half and back row forwards Ollie Hutcheson and Luke Yarranton worked tirelessly in attack and defence.

"We now take on Worcester in a local derby at Wyeside and will need to be switched on right from the kick off if we are to get a positive result."
