LUCTONIANS said goodbye to two players following their final match of their National League 2 North season.

Dan Smith and Joe Doyle have decided to leave Mortimer Park, while director of rugby Alex Davidson has also left.

Smith has been involved with Lucs for 19 years and was part of a junior side that featured the likes of Mat Hackley, Louis Silver, Jordan Street and Will Hodnett.

Still a Colt, he made his senior rugby debut during the 2009/10 season, the year the club gained promotion to National League 2 North.

Smith went on to make a record 152 National League appearances, scoring 36 tries, and captained Luctonians for two seasons.

He also coaches various junior sides, including the Under-16s, who won the North Midlands Cup, and the under-14s, who are in North Midlands Plate Final this Sunday.

Smith will be moving to New Zealand with his fiancée Emma.

Doyle, meanwhile, has decided to spend more time with his young family.

The back is also a product of Lucs' junior section and was part of the same team that contained Zac Watkins and Alex James.

Aged 17, Doyle joined Ludlow before returning to Luctonians.

In total, he made 66 National League appearances and scored 20 tries, including a memorable one against Leicester Lions that kept Lucs in National League 2 North on the final game of the 2014/15 season.

As reported by the Hereford Times, Davidson is leaving due to the director of rugby position being made redundant at Mortimer Park.

Originally a Colt at Luctonians and a member of the first XV in 2000, Davidson enjoyed a successful playing career at Birmingham Solihull, becoming their most capped player.

He returned to Lucs in 2010 and has been a key figure in ensuring the team have maintained National League 2 status for seven seasons.

"Elements such as video-analysis, strength and conditioning, and nutrition are all areas that have developed in Alex’s time here, in order for Lucs to try and keep pace with the levels of our opposition," said Luctonians captain and administrator Alex Smith.

"It has taken a very special character to oversee this period of transition, whilst still retaining all the amateur values that we have always held dear as a club."

Lucs' final game was a 36-23 home defeat to Sheffield Tigers.

Doyle marked his final game by scoring a try, with Hackley and Guy Kirby also getting their names on the scoresheet.

Silver added a conversion and a penalty, while Tom Jones kicked over a drop goal.

Lucs finished 12th in the division with 56 points to their name.
