FOUR Herefordshire rugby teams are all in with a chance of gaining promotion as the season winds down to a gripping climax.

Greyhound top a four-way fight for promotion from Midlands 5 West (North) going into their final game, while Bromyard are second in Midlands 4 West (South).

Ledbury, meanwhile, still have a great chance of getting out of Midlands 3 West (South), while Ross-on-Wye claimed an excellent 13-10 win against Smiths Rugby to maintain their promotion push from Gloucester 2.

Ross opened up a 6-0 lead thanks to two Aaron Ryder penalties and they defended well to keep Smiths at bay.

However, the away side did reduce the deficit with a penalty.

Just before half time, number eight Josh Walker created a driving maul and the forwards charged through the 22 to the try line.

However, they were penalised for crossing.

Minutes into the second half and a dominant Smiths went ahead thanks to a converted try.

Both teams then exchanged penalties before Marcus Barnard scored a try for Ross.

That put the home side ahead, with Ryder converting.

Greyhound head a pack of three teams that have 40 points and they know if they beat Market Drayton in their final game, they will be promoted.

Market Drayton are second, while Tenbury and Aldridge, who face each other on the final day, can also go up.

Last Saturday, Greyhound thrashed Warley 66-0 thanks to four tries from Elliot Phillips.

Liam Webdale also helped himself to a hat-trick, with the other tries coming from Matt Eden and Mark Austin; Zack Thompson adding the conversions.

Bromyard claimed a winning bonus point at Kings Norton thanks to a 42-15 win.

Early tries from Alex Parker and Jamie Gibbons set the tine, with Parker adding another try after the break.

Greg Leighton and Will Teece added further tries, with Toby Rivers converting every one.

Bromyard are four points behind leaders Alcester with a game in hand and two points better off then third-placed Stoke Old Boy, whoM they face on the final day.

Ledbury are now third in Midlands 3 West (South) after losing 17-12 to Old Coventrians.

Evesham have leapfrogged them into second place after being awarded a walk-over win against Old Leamingtonians.

Ledbury have three games remaining, starting with a home match against Old Leamingtonians this Saturday.
