LUCTONIANS director of rugby Alex Davidson was delighted his side stopped their losing streak yesterday.

The Mortimer Park side beat Sedgley Park 23-14 – their first win in 11 games in National League 2 North.

"A run of 10 losses is not good at any time, but it was for the taking in a game that nobody expected us to win," said Davidson.

"But we've been positive for the last few weeks and it all came right.

"For 60 to 70 minutes, we've been putting performances together, but for that 10 minute period, we were always conceding two or three scores.

"The game was built on defence and that was the difference.

"We got back to our line speed, completing tackles and that gave us the chance to score at the other end.

"To lose 10 games creates quite a mental block but we were back on our own patch and we talked about pride in playing at this place and playing for the remaining 10 games because we don't deserve to be where we are.

"We only had five wins which is probably the second lowest in the league, but we had 14 or 15 bonus points either by scoring tries, which showed we are playing rugby, or just losing by a score margin.

"But it still added up to 10 losses, so it was good to shake that off.

"I think they say that ball in play is only 35 minutes and in recent weeks we have been giving the ball back far too easily at set piece.

"But if you step it up and chop them down, you get the ball back, it's half the battle won."
