HEREFORD gained a vital win against Burton that eases any worries they may have been having in Midlands 1 West.

The Wyesiders went into the game bottom of the division, but the 13-12 victory will surely give much a massive confidence boost as they look towards climbing the table.

"For the first twenty minutes some of the old habits showed up, but after the interval our discipline and organisation enabled us to outmatch Burton for the whole of the second half," said Hereford coach Bob Stewart,

Player coach Luke Fisher added: "We asked them to step up and to change certain things, which they did.

"Our defensive performance was well disciplined and our running game put Burton under pressure which in turn relieved pressure on ourselves.

"We have proved we are better than a 'bottom of table' club.”

Hereford took the lead in the 24th minute through Gareth Jones, which was converted by Dean Powell.

Burton responded with renewed vigour and some careless play from Hereford allowed them to recover the ball.

A well judged kick ahead was followed up for Burton to level the scores with a converted try.

Burton scored another try after the break to lead 12-7 and Hereford started to make a number of handling errors when creating opportunities.

Eventually, the pressure told and Hereford were awarded a penalty, which was kicked over by Powell.

The Wyesiders then led for the first time with a Morgan Goodall penalty and held on for the win.
