A SOLID home performance from Luctonians saw them comfortably beat Wharfedale 34-7 in National League Two North that sets them up nicely for a tough trip at high-flying Sedgley Park

Louis Silver opened Lucs' account after 15 minutes when he landed a penalty with Wharfedale penalised for not releasing.

It continued to be a tight game until the half hour mark when Silver added his second penalty.

That gave Lucs the confidence to start playing some flowing rugby and they capitalised on Tom Jones' excellent kicking to drive Wharfedale deep into their 22.

Frank Kelly finished an excellent move to give the Kingsland side an 11-0 lead, Silver converting, before young winger Charlie Grimes darted over, Silver again converting for a 20-0 half time lead.

The second half started surprisingly slowly with neither side looking to cause any damage in terms of points scoring.

Tom Jones continued to keep Wharfedale back in their own half with his place kicking, but good defensive work from Wharfedale and too many handling errors from both sides meant neither were looking like troubling the scoreboard.

Luctonians' dominance of possession eventually told when Joe Doyle broke the stalemate when he stole through from full back to dive over, Silver again adding the extras. Wharfedale did get on the scoresheet when Jamie Guy converted Josh Burridge's try, but it was Luctonians who had the final say.

Will Hodnett capitalised on a break from Alex Smith to score, which Silver converted
