HEREFORD agonisingly lost in the final of the North Midlands Colts Cup against Church Stretton – going down 28-27.
The Wyesiders raced into a 12-point lead within the opening 10 minutes thanks to tries from Ewan Duncan and Max Aldous Fountain; Bryn Goodall converting one one them.
But the game swung Stretton's way and some good handling in midfield resulted in a try under the posts, which they converted.
As the interval approached, a series of Stretton pick and drives enabled them to score in the corner.
The conversion put them 14-12 ahead.
The Shropshire side increased their lead early in the second half with another converted try before Goodall kicked over a penalty.
Both sides then exchanged tries; Goodall converting Zac Webb's touchdown for Hereford before Rees Proctor went over the line for the Wyesiders.
But Goodall missed the conversion and Stretton won the game by a point.
