LUCTONIANS captain Dan Smith believes six wins out of the remaining 12 games will be enough to keep the Kingsland side in National League Two North.

Lucs go into Saturday’s home game against Caldy in buoyant mood having gained a bonus point at leaders Macclesfield last week.

And with Huddersfield and Broadstreet playing catch-up to stay in the league, it looks like only the third relegation spot is to be decided.

“We’ve got three games in hand on the teams around us, but we’re just focusing on one game at a time,” said Smith. “I have always said I think we’re too good to go down and I think we need six wins.

“If we win all our home games and get something away, then I am fully confident we can stay up.

“Everyone is in good spirits, we just need to get in the right mindset and not get carried away when we get a good result because we can be complacent.”

Lucs have signed Austrian tight-head prop Max Muller, who should be registered in time to play on Saturday.

Muller is the captain of the Austrian national team and got to know Louis Silver through a mutual friend.

“He gives us some depth,” said Smith. “Joe White has been at tight-head, but it is a big ask for a 19-year-old.

“Brad Talbot played seconds on Saturday and Aidan Cheasley is coming back."

Smith added that Lucs tried to be more attacking against Macclesfield.

“We set up in the week to try and score four tries and get the bonus point, so had a licence to play,” said Smith.

“We’re a bit gutted that we didn’t go on and win it.

“Even they said after that we deserved at least a draw.”

Lucs director of rugby Alex Davidson added: “We tried to play a bit more, but I was a bit fearful because we had a fortnight off due to not playing.

“But they applied themselves well."

Macclesfield opened the scoring after Lewis Barker converted David Marwick’s try before Smith went over and Silver added the extras.

But Greg Newton regained the hosts' lead, which Barker converted, before Will Hodnett went over for Lucs.

The away then went ahead through Alex Smith's try, with Silver converting.

Ryan Parkinson went over for Macclefield before Barker kicked over a penalty.
