LUCTONIANS director of rugby Alex Davidson hopes the momentum his side are currently enjoying can take them up to mid-table in National League 2 North.

The Kingsland side have won their last three games to get within a point of safety.

But Davidson believes Lucs are good enough to climb a few more places and is hopeful of a good second half to the season.

"In our first few years in the league, we always started well, whereas in the last couple of years, it has gone the other way," said Davidson.

"But we have now got players back from injury and there is good competition for the shirts, so I am looking for a mid-table finish."

Lucs' latest win was a 27-19 success against Otley, with four tries enabling them to gain a crucial bonus point.

"It was probably our best performance of the season," added Davidson.

"We learned how top hold on to a lead in our last game and against Otley, we learned how to to play up the field and get the fourth try.

"They weathered a lot of pressure in the first half, but we managed to resist it and Aidan Cheasley, Anthony Marfell and Mike Cheasley coming off the bench was a big advantage."

Full-back Johnny Morris, making his return for Luctonians, opened the scoring after just two minutes with a try, which was converted by Louis Silver.

Otley instantly hit back to score a try through Jonathan Stannard, but back came Lucs, who opened up a seven-point lead thanks to a touchdown by John Kelly.

Louis Silver then kicked over a penalty before captain Dan Smith grabbed a try to make it 20-5 to the home side at half-time.

But Otley got within a point of Lucs in the second half.

A penalty try was awarded, converted by Stephen Depledge before the same player added another two points after Mike Coady scored a try.

But Lucs sealed the win thanks to another Smith try, which Silver converted.

Lucs make the short journey to Stourbridge this Saturday.
