ALEX Davidson believes relegation for his Luctonians team will not affect the side.

The Kingsland side are just two points above the National 2 North drop zone with four games remaining.

This is Luctonians' fifth season in the fourth tier of English rugby, but the only one when they have been battling a relegation battle.

But Director of Rugby Davidson says relegation could not mean a great deal to the side and he will be happy to remain at the helm.

We're still building and are a young squad," said Davidson.

"We know where we're going and players come and go here.

"We will just build with what they've got but I truly believe there has enough who have come through in the last month and a half with their performances to keep them up and prove that they're a National 2 side."

Luctonians' fate is in their own hands and they have won their last two games.

Tries from Jordan Street, Adam Knight and Louis Silver secured a 22-7 win against Preston Grasshoppers at Mortimer Park last Saturday.

The victory was on the back of a fantastic away success at relegation rivals Birmingham & Solihull.

"We did stutter slightly, but the boys knew there was a lot on this one," said Davidson.

"The win and the performance at Birmingham really made sure we were in the fight and to get ourselves out of it.

"But that in itself puts pressure on us to perform at home.

"Our set-piece scrummage did suffer against an impressive Preston side, but we tried to play and it paid dividends in the end."

Lucs have this week off before facing leaders Hull Ionians.

But Davidson does not believe his side should go there with any fear.

"We''ll be going there like we did at Ampthill and try and be positive and try and get a bonus point at least," he said.

"But who knows, we could go for the victory."
