HEREFORD are now occupying the play-off place in Midlands 1 West following a 19-0 win against Berksall & Balsall.
The home team conceded two yellow cards in the first 20 minutes, the second when Leon Parsons was impeded when chasing a kick.
The resulting penalty was kicked to touch and from the line-out the Hereford pack drove over the line, but were adjudged to not have grounded the ball.
From the restart, Hereford won the scrum and moved the ball wide.
A well-timed Dean Powell pass was collected by Parsons, who fed Matt Milson to score a try.
Morgan Goodall duly converted before newcomer James Harris to touch down for a try. Goodall again added the extras to take the Wyesiders into the half-time break 14-0 to the good.
The second period turned into an ‘arm wrestle’ in which Hereford came off the better.
The scum was solid, with Callum Duncan and Harris controlling the line-outs and Caleb Haines, Ali McColl and Matt Pritchard working hard. The Wyesiders added another try when Dave Thomas drove away from a maul and, with a deft chip. released Parsons who hacked the ball across the goal-line to touch down.
Goodall however was unable to convert this time.
“We knew how hard they would play and last week’s training sessions concentrated on devising a defensive plan to win the match,” said Hereford coach Bob Stewart.
