HEREFORD Squash, Tennis and Racketball Centre brought their summer to a close with a club finals day.

This year, the juniors finals took place alongside the senior events, leading to some excellent competitive tennis being played at the former Hereford Whitecross Club.

Having won the mixed doubles with Emma Griffiths following victory over beat Mark and Twink Helme, Steve Barnett lost the men's singles to Callum Treasurer, who ended up retaining his title.

The ladies singles was a closer affair with Anna Gajkowski battling to a maiden title over Sharron Haworth, who incidentally played her semi-final the night before.

The men’s doubles was wrapped up by Steve and Rich Barnett against Mike Howard and Patrick Hall, while Gajkowski teamed with Ceri Nichols to beat Val Finney and Julia Jones in the ladies doubles.

In the junior events, players took part in qualifying matches during the morning and those getting through into the knockouts then played in between adult finals.

The eight and under title was won by Harry Jackson with Theo Darke runner up, with Jacob Martin beating Harry McDougall in the 10 and under event.

The 14 and under title went to Oscar Darke, who beat Tobi Watts in the final, while Evie Mcdougall was awarded Female Junior Player of the Year 2015.

This year, the men’s senior sides have all won their divisions in the Hereford and Worcester leagues and hope to build on this success by entering another side next summer.

The ladies' sides have also maintained their positions in the respective leagues and will be targetting promotion next year.
