JOSH Mallender took the first step towards a dream golfing trip to Mexico by winning the South Hereford Audi Invitational event at Burghill Valley GC.

The Hereford-based golfer?came out on top with 39 points in the Stableford rules match over 18 holes and he now goes forward to pair up with another qualifier in the regional final at the Celtic Manor in Wales on July 28.

The one-day qualifying competition at Burghill Valley was one of almost 50 Audi Quattro Cup Invitational events staged throughout the UK.

Seven regional finals will now be staged in July and August with the top 18 pairs going forward to the UK final at Bowood Golf and Country Club near Calne in Wiltshire on September 3.

Ultimately two pairs representing Great Britain will compete in the Audi Quattro Cup World final which is being staged at the Ocean Course at Cabo del Sol Golf Club, Los Cabos, Mexico between November 29 and December 3.

The Audi Quattro Cup, being run for the 25th year, is the world’s largest amateur golf competition with almost 100,000 players from over 50 countries competing in the event.

Meanwhile, Morgan Radziejowski claimed top spot in the Par 3 Boys Championship on the White Tees at Sapey GC.

He carded a gross 56 to finish just one shot ahead of three rivals, club-mates Dominic Handscomb and Rory James and Jamie Thomas from Kington. Cameron Probert from Burghill Valley was fourth on 58.

A total of 33 players took part in the competition.
