JAMIE Wilde has retained the Club Champion crown at Ross-on-Wye GC.

Wilde beat Tony Howells 4&3 in the 36-hole shoot-out at the club’s annual Championships Finals Day.

Wilde opened up a three-hole advantage by lunch and increased to five holes up during the afternoon round.

He also teamed up Colin Bennion to win the Maclean Trophy after they got the better of Jon Matthews and Ross Jenkins.

Ross Seniors’ Gerald Turner secured a maiden triumph in the Trevor Lane Cup after a 5&4 success over Frank Baker.

Simon Buck defeated Phil Edwards 6&5 for the Len Weston Cup and Robert Bodoano clinched the Hospital Cup after a 5&4 triumph over David Griffiths.

Neil Lancett defeated Warren Darrell to collect the Yates Cup and Nigel Gibbs won the Harold Bradley Cup after beating Andrew Paxton.

Other trophy winners included: Winston Wildsmith Salver, Ross Jenkins; Spring Scratch Medal, Tony Howells; Mike Lane Trophy, Tony Howells.

q Brendan O’Brien and Adam Davies carded 44 points to win the Bob Proctor Cup at Leominster GC.

Vince Fish and Jimmy Lindsay were second with 43 points, while third place went to Greg Bridges and Mark Lane who shot 42 points.

Des Jones topped Division 3 and was the overall winner of the Captain’s Day competition.

Alan Shock, with 41 points, triumphed in Division 1.

Oliver Harry was second on a countback from third-placed Alan Griffiths after both players shot 37 points.

Kevin Room topped Division 2 on a countback from second-placed John Gosling. Both players carded 40 points.

Steve Fletcher also played well and finished third after shooting 39 points.

Jones, with 41 points, won Division 3, while John Braithwaite (38 points) was second and Bob Ingram (37 points), third.

Oliver Harry (78-12-66) topped the Division 1 section of the club’s September Medal.

Dave Botwood (81-12-69) was second and Martin Davies (82-12-70) finished in third spot.

Dave McGrath (82-17-65) was the leading player in Division 2.

W Harris (86-18-68) was the runner-up and third place went to Malcolm Davies (88-18-70).

Lee Chapman (85-21-64) won Division 3, while Doug Hill (84-19-65) was second and Norman Greener (93-26-67), third.

Tony Bufton clinched the seniors’ Derrick Jones Cup after shooting 39 points.

Jeremy Finney was second on a countback from third-placed John Teece after they both carded 36 points.

q David Wood carried off the Belmont Trophy at Belmont GC after firing 43 points.

Peter Wilcox (40 points) was second and Nicholas Williams (40 points), third.

Nick Hemming (84-12-72) won the 0-12 handicap section of the September Medal.

Shaun Bufton (82-6-76) finished second and Steve Massey (89-12-77), third.

Tony Quinn (80-13-67) topped the 13-28 handicap section from second-placed Wref Digings (85-13-72) and third-placed Graham Hodsdon (88-15-73).

Jamie Roach (77-15-62) bagged the Denco Running Medal. Steve Wheatstone (86-20-66) was second and third place went to Harvey Hancock (75-7-68).

Colin Rowan (88-20-68) carried off the John Bishop Memorial Cup.

John Alexander (80-11-69) was the runner-up and Gordon Bumfrey (93-23-70) secured third place.

Alexander (82-11-71) also performed well in the 0-14 handicap section of the medal and won the top prize.

Rowan (90-20-70) clinched first place in the 15-28 handicap section.

q George Farr, Dave Mains and Phil Gould totalled 52 points to take first place in the seniors’ Texas Scramble at Kington GC.

Andy Edey, Barry Dunhill and Terry Inskip were second on a countback after carding 50 points.

John Williams, Terry Weight and John Hoyle, who also carded 50 points, finished in third place.

The seniors team had a good six-games-to-two home win over Burghill Valley GC.

Mike Harley triumphed in the Monday Knockout competition in the seniors’ section.

Terry Inskip won the Born too Soon event, while Andy Edey and Frank Goodwin clinched the Summer Pairs Knockout title.

q Shropshire & Herefordshire County Seniors wrapped up their season with a 10-8 defeat to Cheshire at Astbury.

The morning greensomes were tied 3-3 which gave the county a hope of achieving a rare victory over strong opponents.

However, only Basil Griffiths and Steve Howell and captain Cliff Mawby and Tony Harrop squeezed afternoon wins for the county.

Mawby said: “Our great success in 2008 was always going to be hard to follow but, on a positive note, we had some excellent victories this year, played some wonderful courses and enjoyed fierce competition and camaraderie with our opponents. I very much look forward to next year’s campaign with a view to improving on this year.”

q Robbie Jones held off the challenge from Lee Hince to win Kingstone High School Golf Society’s September Stableford.

The duo were well ahead of the rest of the field with 26 points and 25 points respectively.

Moray Mackintosh, Steve Fisher and Alex Gabrielides were the other divisional winners.

q Philip Harrison, with 69, scored the lowest gross in Division 1 of Burghill Valley’s Men’s Medal.

Neil Crockett fired 76-8-68 to win the Division 1 nett, while Matthew Edwards (83-14-69) was second and Ed Morley (72-3-69), third.

Gary Anderson, with 83, claimed the lowest gross score in Division 2.

Steve Newton (88-24-64) won the Division 2 nett and was five shots clear of his nearest rival.

Don Horton (84-15-69) was second on a countback from third-placed Bill Harris (90-21-69).

Neil Crockett secured the Stan Pullen Trophy after shooting 72-3-69, while Harrison (69-5-64) clinched the Urry Millennium Nett Trophy.

David Evans, with 38 points, triumphed on a countback in the Seniors’ 4-Clubs Stableford Trophy.

Mac Park, who also shot 38 points, was second and Ron Price (37 points), third.

q Cradoc GC continued their good run of form by defeating The Herefordshire by five matches to one.

The club’s seniors emulated their younger colleagues with a four-and-a-half matches to two-and-a-half home success over Belmont Seniors.

q Bridgnorth carried off The Herefordshire Golf Club Centenary Cup in the Society of Shropshire & Herefordshire GC Captains’ Autumn meeting Peter Timms, from The Herefordshire GC, was elected vice-captain at the annual meeting, while Kington’s Mike Clegg is a new addition to the committee.
