A HARNESS racing enthusiast has handed over the reins of a county club following 23 years of service.

Stella Havard, from Dinmore, was elected as Hereford & Borders Harness Club’s inaugural chairman in 1994, a position she has held until recently.

The club organised major meetings at Allensmore for 15 years, including the prestigious Horse and Hound Cup, which attracted runners from across the UK and Ireland.

During the past decade, the club swapped quality for quantity, organising four busy meetings rather than one.

Havard was presented with a clock by new chairman Bret Strickland to thank her for her service.

“I’ve worked with some wonderful people to provide some memorable racing,” said Havard.

“I know the club is healthy and in good hands, so I can now step back and hopefully enjoy my horses racing without so much stress.”
