LEDBURY Town Reserves celebrated returning to New Street for the first time in six weeks with a fine 3-1 win against Fownhope Reserves that takes them to the final of the Ross Cup.

Permission was granted by the landowners for the club to use New Street due to the unavailability of the Cricket Club pitch.

The club have been in turmoil ever since it was announced they would fold due to increasing debts.

It was initially agreed that they could play at New Street until the end of the season, but soon found themselves locked out due to a disagreement over the ground's lease.

Both the cricket and rugby club's offered their facilities in the short term to ensure football can still be played in the town.

But because of the preparation work going on at the cricket club ahead of next season, Town were unable to play there.

"It was the first time a Ledbury team had played at the ground since a league game on January 24," said Ledbury Town spokesman Chris Ponter.

"Negotiations between the football club's new committee and Property Solutions Ltd for a long-term deal are still continuing after the club was forced to fold at the start of the year due to heavy debts."

Phil Preedy and Roly Welch's side lost 3-1 to Fownhope Reserves in the quarter-finals of the HFL HJ Handley Cup in their previous game, but came up trumps this time around.

A minute's silence was held prior to the game in memory of former Ledbury player Paul Welch, who recently died.

Captain Jamie Welch, former first team striker Dan Herbert and returning reserves forward Gavin Walton all found the target for the hosts during the rescheduled game.

Fownhope's scorer was Oliver Webb.

Ledbury will face either Division 3 leaders Dore Valley or Ewyas Harold Reserves in the final, with the second last four encounter taking place this Saturday.

Town are already in the finals of the Junior Cup and Burghill Cup and just a point behind Woofferton in third place in Division 1 of the Hereford Times Herefordshire Football League Premier Division.

Their next game is this Saturday when they travel to Holme Lacy.

The Colts did not play last weekend, but host Leominster Town Reserves this Saturday.
