Burghill Valley's Alec Tate finished their when the Shropshire and Herefordshire county youth championships were held at Herefordshire Golf Club.

The competition was played over 36 holes for the best gross scores.

The winner was Will Enefer from the Wrekin Golf Club with scores of 68+65=133, seven shots under par for the day. Nick Jones (Shropshire GC) was second with scores of 74+76=150 with Tate three shots back with scores of 75+78=153.

Herefordshire beat Brecon and Radnor in the annual challenge match at Llandrindod Wells GC for the third year running.

But there was a thrilling finish with everything coming down to the last match as captain Guy Haines, bringing up the rear, securing the win.

The Captains' Open Joint Charity Day raised £1,665 for the County Air Ambulance Helicopter Emergency Landing Pad appeal (HELP) thanks to the generosity of not only the golfers but also many local businesses.
