HEREFORDSHIRE'S best wheelchair tennis player is looking to use her experience to develop the next generation of the sport's stars.

Janet McMorran has represented Great Britain in the last five Paralympics but is now looking to concentrate more on coaching than on her own playing career.

Her aim is to set up a Herefordshire wheelchair tennis group, suitable for all ages, which might be instrumental in producing the next top player with, perhaps, the 2012 London Paralympics as the ulimate target.

"Most potential players are in mainstream education and it is difficult to find out who they are so we need them to contact us," said McMorran.

"We are particularly hoping to attract younger players but really it does not matter what age or standard you are.

"It is a sport for anyone - I was almost 40 and had two children before I started playing."

Matthew Faucher, a former pupil at the Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School, was the last county player to break through to top level.

"Matt is now playing out of Cardiff but it would be marvellous to find someone else with his talent," said McMorran.

"I am really looking to concentrate on coaching now, I have passed the coaching course and am now doing a counselling course as well.

"But it will not just be me doing the coaching, we are looking to get some of the top coaches in to help."

The Herefordshire & Worcestershire LTA are throwing their backing behind the scheme which will be carried out under their auspices with meetings taking place at either Malvern or Leominster.

"Wheelchair tennis has given me such a fantastic life and people just don't know what opportunities there are out there," said McMorran .
