TESS Tessa Langford has stepped up to the captain's role with Hereford as if she has never been anything but, leading her team to top of the table with 10 wins from 10.

“I’m really enjoying it at the moment, it definitely helps that we are winning," she said.

"Saying that, I wouldn’t be able to without the support of the senior players in the squad, especially the likes of Mel (Bryans), Deri (Horan) and Hayley (Longstaff).

"They all support me completely and, if I have a problem, I know I can turn to them.

"They are happy to help out and it works well, so long may it continue.”

As well as taking control of the team's off-field duties, Langford has been outstanding on the field this year with some of her performance nothing short of magical, including last Saturday's player-of-the-match performance, as vice-captain Mel Bryans explained.

“She’s brilliant," said Bryans. "She wasn’t expecting to be captain this year either.

"Originally, she was going to be vice-captain but the original choice suffered a nasty injury in the summer league so Tess stepped up and you can’t fault anything she’s done.

"She's great with the administrative side of things but she really shines when you get her out on that pitch and leads by example with her performances.

"She’s a real credit to the club and it’s no surprise that she seems to get the best out of herself and her team-mates week in, week out.

"Long may that continue.”
