HEREFORD missed out on a chance to go top of Premier 2A of the West Club’s Women’s League when they were held to a 3-3 home draw by Lansdown despite a hat-trick from skipper Jess Lambert.

The city club’s captain put her side ahead after a neat passing movement and scored again almost immediately after Amy Wilkins’ strong run and accurate pass.

Lansdown pulled a goal back before Lambert completed her treble. The visitors, however, began to control the game and scored twice to level by half-time.

Some vital saves by goalkeeper Sam Jones helped save the point in the second-half when Di Feely came closest to winning the match with a deflected shot which was scrambled to safety.

Leominster are also on the promotion trail in the North Division and boosted their hopes with a 1-0 home win against fancied Jaspers. The north Herefordshire side had to work hard to break down the visiting defence and the goal, a superb strike from Nina Emery, did not arrive until after the interval.

Leominster now travel to leaders Bretforton on Saturday when a win would send them into the mid-season break at the top of the table.

In Severn Division One, Hereford 2nd picked up a useful point from a 2-2 draw at Newent 2nd.

But Ross slumped 3-0 at Badgers in Severn Division Two. In dreadful weather conditions, Badgers took an early lead when goalkeeper Beth Ralph was given no chance from a short-corner routine.

Badgers swiftly doubled their advantage but it was Ross who dominated possession with Vanessa Ball and Kate Comeron controlling central midfield.

Despite all their good work, Ross were caught on the break for Badgers to score a third. Kate Powell was the Ross player-of-the-match.

l PRESTEIGNE continue to be the form team in Division Two of the South Wales League and still lead the way after a 6-1 hammering of Newport 2nd.

Jess Goodwin gave the border club an early lead and there were further goals from Rita Tomkins and Lesley Phillips before the interval.

Newport pulled a goal back at the start of the second period.

But Charlie Morris tapped in after a fine pass from Goodwin, who added her second and Presteigne’s fifth before Jody Owen-Evans rounded off the scoring. Donna Jones’ all-round effort earned her the player-of-the-match award.

Kington remain in third place in Division One despite a rare 2-0 reverse at Pembroke.

l ERICA Rogers collected two goals and a yellow card as Hereford progressed to the second round of the EH Ladies Trophy with a 4-3 win over Wimborne Wayfarers.

Clare Pritchard scored an early goal with Rogers doubling the lead with a fierce shot into the roof of the net. Wayfarers pulled a goal back before Rogers’ drag-flick from a short-corner re-established the two-goal margin.

Goals from Wimborne either side of the break ensured a thrilling finish and Hereford’s chances seemed to be reduced when Rogers was yellow-carded.

But a fine passing movement between Di Feely and Kat Walton set up the chance for youngster Saska Ingham to bag the winner.

Hereford will now entertain Brighton & Hove in the third round.
