A FATHER and son pairing carded a nett 60 medal score at Ross Golf Club's annual Eddie Hodges Cup.

Derek Hancock and his son, Harvey, performed brilliantly the post the score which is the equivalent of 12 strokes below the club's 72 standard scratch score.

They got off to a great start with Hancock Junior making gross birdies at five of the opening six holes, and he followed this with an eagle at the eighth and more more birdies at the 15th and 16th.

His father, an eight handicapper, contributing by getting crucial gross pars or better at key stages, meaning the 44 other pairings were almost bystanders with Justin Halfpenny and Jon Tookey the closest to them with nett 63.

Hancock Junior, 22, clearly finds the Ross course to his liking. Within weeks of moving from the Belmont Abbey Club last year he won the Burn Trophy and Len Weston Knock-out Cup.

When he won the 2015 Spring Scratch medal he went on to win regional finals meaning he represented the Ross club nationally at the two days of final stages held in Cork last September.

Meanwhile, 12-year-old Jordan Hughes, a 21 handicapper, will have fond memories of his performance in the Eddie Hodges Cup after finishing third with a nett 65 score, followed by Arthur Cartwright/Simon Mills and Kevin D'Lonra/Richard Moore with nett 66's, and Simon Buck/Andrew Baldwin with nett 68.
