ROSS Golf Club came top in the North Gloucestershire Golf Union Annual Silver Tray team event.

The side, captained by Clive Whitson, beat nine other clubs to win the event by an impressive 10 points.

Whitson was supported by Martin Pimlow, club secretary Ian Griffiths, Neil Lancett, Danny Lancett, Danny Gear, Steve Wallbank, Matthew Hillier and club treasurer Steve Price.

The captain is hoping more silverware in the Gloucestershire Golfing Union Annual President's Cup.

The Gorsley-based club have reached the quarter-final stage where they will face Chipping Sodbury.

Meanwhile, 11-year-old Timmy Fycun won Ross' annual Alfred Kitchen Cup for juniors.

Timmy's gross 84 nett 59 medal score won him both gross and nett categories which has seen his annual silver handicap tumble from 31 to 20 in just a few months,

Equally, 12-year-old Harry Griffiths, who was runner-up with a gross 90 nett 72 medal score, is another youngster who is making rapid progress within the Ross Club's Junior Academy. Sophie Price, meanwhile, won the Mary Beavis Cup with a very impressive 157 gross score over two rounds.

The busy summer season is also being enjoyed by Ross Seniors members with 88 taking part in a midweek medal with impressive nett scores of 63 and 65 achieved by Bob Cooper and Peter Shaw respectively, followed by Colin Price nett 66, Steve Naylor nett 67 and Bob Cook, Charlie Walker, and Geoff Evans who all weighed in with nett 68's.

But the bragging rights for the best gross score of the day was earned by 10 handicapper Charlie Walker with a gross 78 medal round.
