TREVOR Perry took advantage of a Leominster GC course in fine condition to become the 21st winner of Leominster Rankin Club Society’s open stableford for the Mathew Finney Memorial Cup.

Despite failing to score on one hole, Perry amassed 39 points to finish three clear of his nearest rivals, Kevin Green and Billy Harris. Green took runners-up spot on a countback from Harris and also claimed the trophy for the best gross score with 78.

Thirty-four competitors were able to celebrate another highlight of the day – a hole in one by Derek Phillips on the 196-yard sixth. The ace helped Phillips, the first winner of the memorial cup back in 1995, to a nearest the pin prize and a share of the prize for the most points on the par threes with Terry Davies.

Other prize-winners included Dan Kelly, nearest the pin with a second shot on the 18th green, and Brian Faulkner for the longest drive.
