HEREFORDSHIRE GC's Alex Allen has become the county men's champion after a thrilling play-off win.

Allen was all square with Burghill Valley's Ed Morley on 141 after 36 gross holes.

But, he pulled away in the four-hole play-off to win by three shots.

Another Burghill Valley golfer, Phil Locket was third with 147.

And Burghill Valley also produced the winner of the nett competition where Dave Tedstone fired 139 to win from club-mate S Rai on the back 18, who clinched second place on the back nine from Herefordshire's Will Lloyd.

The morning gross prize went to Alec Tate (Burghill Valley) with 73 while Carl Rose (Burghill Valley) took the afternoon gross prize with 74.

Two more Burghill golfers took the morning and afternoon nett prizes with Phil Harris (67) and Frank Dodson (70) earning the respective prizes.

Morley (141), Locket (147) and Rose (150) posted a combined 438 to take the team prize For Burghill Valley by three shots from Herefordshire's Allen (141), Lloyd (149) and Ady Marshall (151).

Burghill Valley 's run of success extended into the Shropshire and Herefordshire Union of Golf Clubs' boys' championship at Leominster where Morgan Radziejowski shot a gross 85 to win the under-12 prize.

Tom Matthews of Oswestry shot 79 to take the under-14 prize and will represent SHUGC in the Midlands Golf Union Champion of Champions Competition at The Nottinghamshire GC in September.

After early rain, the competition was played out in dry and occasionally sunny weather with 43 players taking part.

Ross GC, Strong Trophy, annual drawn mixed foursomes stableford competition: 1 Lesley Ross and Stephen Price 37 pts, 2 Dorothy Rees and Frank Gallagher 35.

Ross Seniors Captain Richard Escolme's annual away day at Sapey GC: 1 David M Rees 39 pts, 2 Arthur Reid 38, 3 David Price 36 pts, 4 Alan Thompson 35, 5= Doug David, Eric Snape 34.

Ross beat Cirencester 3.5-1.5 in the Annual Presidents Cup, a foursomes event played among clubs in Gloucestershire to move into the event's third round with wins by Gwynne and James Morgan 2/1, Neil Lancett and Matthew Hillier 3/1, Chris Merriman and Simon Davies 4/2 and a halved match involving Joe Irvine and Warren Moore.

In friendly matches, Ross Seniors halved 4-4 at Minchinhampton GC but were found wanting by Forest of Dean GC who inflicted a rare home defeat by 4-2.
